Elisabetta Dami Book Week

Last week Room 12 were assigned as a class to Create a poster about one of our favourite authors from around the world.  We all decided our author which was Elisabetta Dami (author of Geronimo and Thea Stilton). We all came up with at least 1 or 2 ideas. All of us agreed and disagreed but in the end we were collaborated well enough to get it done. We were all proud of ourselves and eachother. I think that we worked well together.

Touch Rugby

Running around, passing the rugby ball to each other, learning skills, techniques and improving at touch rugby.

Last week on Thursday the 12th of November 2015 all senior classes from the senior syndicate had a 45 minute touch rugby lesson. As we waited until the clock  hit 11:45 we made our way outside on the field right in front of all the junior classes.

Finally it was our turn. Trevor was our coach and he was really qualified. He seemed to look like he was in his early 50’s but despite his age he could still run around, have fun and keep fit.

The whole 45 minutes was full of enjoyment and fun. We played activities. Answered questions. Learnt how to play properly and had relay races. My favourite activity was when we all lined up in a circle and we’d to pass the ball clockwise around as fast as we could. If we dropped the ball or threw it improperly we’re declared disqualified .

We had two rounds and luckily for me I made it into the top five. I really enjoyed the entire lesson and appreciated that Trevor taught us. I’m really looking forward to the next time we have another lesson this Thursday. Thanks again Trevor!

Participation In The First Ever Ruapotaka School Poetry Recital!

As the two prefects from our class room Ofa and Sini were calling up the three finalist from each room counting upwards, Room 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. While I and another finalist Florida was waiting I was getting really nervous. I wasn't sure about Florida because from my perspective she showed no sign of emotion. I really wanted to bail out and just forget my whole entire and make that an excuse for me to not present my poem. After a matter of time in my mind I was thinking about it so I decided to just do it.

As it was my turn to say my speech based on the Past, Present and Future by June Kellum- 2005, I could feel the perspiration occurring onto by body. I had to remember all the tips that Mrs Golder had told me. In the end I'd said my whole poem without stopping which I am very proud of.

Since this was the first ever poem recital at our school there wasn't able to be a first, second, and third so everyone received a certificate for participating.

Well Done Everyone!

End of Year Test: Reading

Could it be? Was it the second option or the first? I’d knew that I’ve had no choice but to choose one or else I’ll lose a full mark. Even if it was the wrong answer I’d still have to try. Afterall In the test it says try to answer even if you’ll have to guess.

As we’d already begun our test I could feel  perspiration process occurring across my entire body. I was really nervous. Reading wasn’t my best subject so I knew there was a chance of me failing my age standards.

What only felt like 5 minutes was actually 20 minutes and that’s when negative thoughts were initiating in my mind. As I was wasting valuable time  I did my best to clear my mind so that I could carry on. Once I cleared my mind I carried on with the test.

In the end I had faith within myself and hoped that I’d passed. A few days later when Mrs. Golder had marked all of the test and we’d had our results I’d received my test results. As I looked at the total and the stanine I noticed that I passed.

I was filled with mixed emotions. From relief, to happiness, excitement but there was just a tiny bit of disappointment. I guess I was disappointed because of my mark and that compared to last and this year I didn’t make a big improvement as i thought of making.

All I knew was that I tried my best and that’s all that matters.

Otahuhu Park

Staying at the park, although it was still dark. It was actually quite fun even without the bright sun!

During the two weeks holiday off from school my three year old  niece, Vaiola, my older cousin, Sophia, my mum, three sisters Rose, Lupe and Malia, Taveti and I went to the park. We all traveled all by car.

On the way there it was a bit funny because Vaiola was always on her own buzz. She kept singing and screaming the whole way there. What made it even more worse was that I was sitting right beside her. The things she was screaming were “The wolf finds the sheep and then he eats all of them”.

Vaiola is very tall for her age. She has super curly black hair. Her left leg has a small light brown birthmark, the same as her father. She loves nursery rhymes and fairy tales and most of the time she is really stubborn and will almost always disagree with anything unless they were compliments about herself.

At some point I realized that I’d knew the nursery rhyme she was singing. It was at the tip of my tongue then all of a sudden it hit me. The rhyme she was singing was the ‘The Wolf and the Seven Little Sheep’.

I was relieved that I finally solved the mystery of the rhyme she was singing but sadly O wouldn't be relieved from her singing. It was useless trying to prevent her. In fact it would just make her sing even louder.

With all the bellowing and the singing during the car ride to the park I started to have a sore head ache. I was also really tired but unfortunately I couldn't possibly sleep with all the noise and rackets that one little three year old child was making.

Finally we made it to the park and I was so glad that I wouldn’t have to hear all the bellowing anytime sooner. It was a bit crowded at first until it was getting darker in hours that just felt like minutes. At the park there was a humongous spider web climbing course where anyone and everyone could climb so I climbed it. It was at least 5 metres off the ground. Once I made it to the top I looked at the view that it provided me with which was amazing.

I could see a glimpse of the beautiful orange sun from the distance as it was settling down in the Western side of the country. As well as the sun I could see the big enormous pine tree that preferably looked as big as 6 adult elephants stacked up . In the corner of my eye I could just see the corner of my cousin’s house two blocks away from the park. There were also men on the field training for a rugby touch game.

We played, and played and played and played until our feet started to ache then we all just laid down on the dark green grass that felt either damp or just cold. A few minutes later we were off back home.

It was very fun and at the end of the day I was overjoyed and excited for the next time we’ll go back there again.

Nelson Mandela Biography

Nelson Mandela has become well known and respected all over the world as a symbol of the struggle against apartheid and all forms of racism. To aboriginal Africans he is their icon and hero of African liberation.

Not only is Nelson Mandela known well for the struggle against apartheid but also for preventing less racist violent policewomen and men against citizens and also because he played a major role for the battle of South Africa's Independence.

In the late 19th century Nelson Mandela became the first black President of South Africa. He became actively involved in the ANC also known as the African National Congress in his middle aged 20s in 1942. He served South Africa for 5 years from 1994 to 1999.

Nelson Mandela was born on July the 18th 1918  and died 2 years ago on December the 5th 2013 at the age of 95 years old. Nelson Mandela died after suffering from a prolonged respiratory infection. Nelson Mandela died at his home in Johannesburg. Nelson Mandela was born in Mvezo, Tranksei South Africa.

Nelson Mandela was born Rolihlala Mandela . Rolihlala in the Xhaos language literally means "pulling a branch of a tree", but more commonly translates as a trouble maker.

Although Nelson Mandela has done many great things in life he has once been sent to jail. Did he do anything wrong? No he didn't but only stand up to the apartheid. Why did he go to jail though if it's just protesting you guess? Its because back in those days when the apartheid were in control that was apart of their law. Whomever protested towards the apartheid had to pay a price, which was Nelson Mandela's price, sentenced to prison for 27 years.

Once Nelson Mandela became in charge of everything being President of South Africa he managed to change everything. He gave everyone equal rights so therefore everyone could speak their minds to everyone and anyone.

In 2009 Nelson Mandela's birthday was declared "Mandela Day" to promote global peace and to celebrate the South African Leader's Legacy. Nelson Mandela has changed people, countries, laws and the world. He's also made many inspirational quotes, sayings and many more things.

"When a man has done what he considers to be his duty to his people and his country, he can rest in peace. I believe I have made that effort and that is, therefore, why I will sleep for the eternity" - Nelson Mandala  "It always seems impossible until it is done." - Nelson Mandela"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." - Nelson Mandela"We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference." -Nelson Mandela

Pt England's Dress Rehearsal

We were there to watch their own made up performance called "Cindy and Josh." It was very entertaining and full of talented Pt England students dancing and singing. We all enjoyed the show but unfortunately it came to an end. We were all lucky to go and watch their Dress Rehearsal and all appreciate them inviting us. Thanks Pt England!

Great Effort on Coming 3rd Place

Everyone crowded, pushing each other while trying to fit through our school gate. After all the pushing and bumping each other we finally made it through. During the time we were running we could feel the pressure and perspiration forming on our bodies. Everyone was cheering while coming through to the finish line. We felt relieved. At the end of the day we were all proud of ourselves and others who tried their best.

Learning Square and Cube Roots

Displaying IMG_3322.JPG
Recently Room 12 have been learning about Square and Cube Roots. To help us understand and learn more efficiently we used uni-link blocks. We learnt how to build a 2 Dimensional square and 3 Dimensional cube. At first it was a bit complicated but in the end we got used to doing it and were faster than ever. To me the uni-link blocks helped a lot. To not forget what square and cube roots look like we display them in class. It was very important of us to understand square and cube roots so next term they will help us to solve other equations.

Our Paper Creatures

Lately we have started to do origami for our visual arts. As well as doing origami we had to understand the definition of the word "origami". While finding the definitions we also found out what country it came from which is 'Japan'.

Syndicate Assembly

Yesterday, Monday the 7th of September 2015 Room 12 once again were assigned to host the Syndicate Assembly
First we had to have someone to be the ‘Master of Ceremony’ which in other words is the ‘Chief Host. Miria volunteered to be the organiser.
For our main attraction we had a Talent Quest performed by a group of people from each senior syndicate class.
We had four judges including Kolotina, Mika, Miria and myself.
Sini and Melelose represented our class.
At the end of the Talent Quest it was a tie with first place Room 9 and Room 11. In second place Room 10 and Room 12 at third. It was really fun and it seemed that our audience enjoyed our presentation.

Aware Who You Are?

Introduction

Your church. Your Beliefs. Your DNA. Your Fingerprints. Your Traditions. Your Fashion. Your Characteristics. Your Personality. Your, your and more of your. Because it’s your personal identity.

Clarification

To be able to know who you are you have to understand your own individual personal identity. The first step to knowing information about personal identity is to clarify it.

Personal Identity has many definitions relevant to many different subjects and categorised information. Since personal identity has many categorised information my explanation and also information report is roughly about the Characteristics in personal identity and the usage.

Community

Your local community, suburb, city and country form are a major part of your personal identity. It tells you where you live, came from, had your childhood, where you met people or possibly even died. You can have many bad and good memories.

Communication

You communicate everyday of your life. Talking, texting, messaging, codes and some people using sign language. Everyone uses communication on a daily basis. Social media is becoming a big problem as a form of communication.

Traditions and Cultures

Having traditions and cultures display what your family religion such as ancestors do with the future generation created in your own family. Your cultural heritage not only presentates what culture you are but also being a citizen of two or more countries. Don’t be embarrassed when people ask what culture you are. Be confident and love your culture.

Church and Beliefs

Your church and beliefs are what you believe in, inside and out of church. If you believe if God is real or not, or if you believe if Heaven and Hell isn’t just a myth or fable and is real. Sometimes that question might come up somewhere and you have to answer it with evidence. Maybe you don’t have evidence but in the end you could just say “I believe in it and so does my church”.

Fashion and Foods

Your fashion and foods are the type of clothing you wear and variety of foods that are eaten by you. Sometimes your clothes can be cultural. For example; a lavalava. There are many types of foods that are eaten mostly only from polynesian aboriginal people. For example; chopsuey, green banana and coconut cream.

Personality

Your personality are your characteristics and qualities that form your individual distinctive character. They are also a set of emotional qualities, ways you behave and also what makes you different from another.

Fingerprints and DNA

Your fingerprint and DNA are very unique. Everyone has different DNA and fingerprints. People might say that twins are identical but that’s only in their appearance. Really they don’t have the same DNA and fingerprints as each other.

Identity Thieves

Be cautious when it comes to emails, messaging or any other kind of communication because sometimes the messenger might be an identity thief or should be marked as spam. Once an identity thief has personal information they can use it in a variety of ways like; eft post money and sometimes change the billing address on your credit card so you no longer receive the bills as they continue running up charges on the account.

Identity Usage

You use your personal identity almost everywhere. At schools, applying or registering for jobs, joining clubs or the library, credit cards and also social media. It is very helpful in many ways.

Conclusion

All of these information is equally important and linked .Your own individual personal identity is unique, special and priceless.

Paper Mache Daffidols

Last week for daffodil day each and every class was assigned to individually create daffodils and to present it in or outside their rooms. All classes worked hard and each person put effort in making daffodils. Room 12 (us year eights) also made a vase made out of paper which was a neat touch to its appearance since we made our daffodils out of paper and paper only.

No Germs Allowed!

Germs are everywhere. On the floor and on the door. On your shoe, what should you do? I’ll give you a clue, read this, follow these instructions and you’ll never again say ‘Achooo’!

Germs In Nails:

Around the world long nails have been part of fashion on models, celebrities and even just on children. But do they take the time to notice that there is a considerable chance that there are germs in their finger nails.

Cause:
*Here’s a question for you to answer:
When your sore, body or head is itchy and you have long, sharp nails what do you do?
*(Choose an Option and comment below in comment box or choose other and write down what you will do that is not one of the options)

  1. Scratch it with all your might
  2. Slap where it is itchy
  3. Apply ‘Non Itching Cream’ on body
  4. Ignore It
  5. Other

*(Keep this in mind till the end)

Growing long nails, being lazy to not cut and scratching your body while having long nails are both the causes of developing germs in your nail from time to time.

Effects:

Germs in long nails affect you in many different ways that all can lead to diseases and illnesses.

It can start to develop more and more till it reaches the point where it is too much and is easily spread across the whole body. Fatal germs hide underneath hospital workers nails because there has been research that dirty nails can lead to deadly infections that are easily passed on indirectly to another.

Weird Fact: So people might think that nail biters are doing a bad job by biting their nails but actually they have cleaner nails than others so it is good what they are doing.

Prevention:

To avoid these deadly infections, illnesses and diseases the first step and most important of all is to cut all of your own nail. If you don’t want to cut your nails because of fashion then make sure at all times that your nails stay clean.
Now that you know all this information choose your answer to my question.

Airborne Germs

Airborne germs have been one of the world’s problems and easiest ways to get another person sick. What does airborne germs mean? It’s means that they are germs that are born in the air.

Cause:

Bad hygiene is mostly responsible for airborne germs. It starts off with a cold or flu then when you sneeze or cough the airborne germs are created and spread through the whole entire room.

Effect:

The airborne germs can affect you as many times as it wants to. First off you won’t even notice them because they’re in the air and you can’t see them only with a light microscope. It can give you many illnesses and diseases. From colds to flues and many more.

Prevention:

Airborne germs are the hardest germs to avoid because they’re in the air and can’t be visible without a light microscope. The only way to avoid airborne germs is to wear a sanitation suit or wear facial mask or medical mask.

Now are you aware that germs are everywhere and are very contagious? What are you going to do to stop them from getting to you, relatives and friends?

Thanks Again Madd Messenger!

For the second time this year the people from Madd Messenger came to our school again to talk to us about our responses and our reactions in situations we dislike. First off we had to recall the lesson we had in Term Two which was about positive and negative thoughts and sayings. Once we had gathered our ideas we had remembered from last term we warmed up a bit by doing a few activities. After we all were warmed up we then started to discuss about our reactions and responses. Aydrian and Quros from Room 11 demonstrated how they would react and respond which was very entertaining. At the end of the lesson Petia Wilson drew us a nice drawing of ‘Wonder Woman’.

Madd Mesengers

This morning our year sevens and eights had visitors. They were known as ‘Madd Messengers’. They were here to encourage, support and help us learn that each and every one of us has heard negative and positive thoughts about others and ourselves. We had three enjoyable activities including saying positive things about Sini and Matali. We were all grateful that one guest painted us a very lovely freehand drawing of Iron Man. In the end even though it was sometimes emotional everybody enjoyed the lesson. Thanks

Cooking Tech at Tamaki College

Last week we were able to go to Tamaki College to develop cooking, graphic and many more skills. We had cooking. Our cooking tutor for the 15 weeks was Mrs Tuipolotu. She teaches the year sevens, eights, nines and tens.
We made a sponge cake and decorated it with smarties, kitkat, flake, butter cream, whipped cream, white and brown chocolate droplets. In the end our whole class was impressed with what we had made. But, sadly that was our last session with cooking and now we will be moving on to Graphics.
