Elisabetta Dami Book Week

Last week Room 12 were assigned as a class to Create a poster about one of our favourite authors from around the world.  We all decided our author which was Elisabetta Dami (author of Geronimo and Thea Stilton). We all came up with at least 1 or 2 ideas. All of us agreed and disagreed but in the end we were collaborated well enough to get it done. We were all proud of ourselves and eachother. I think that we worked well together.

Touch Rugby

Running around, passing the rugby ball to each other, learning skills, techniques and improving at touch rugby.

Last week on Thursday the 12th of November 2015 all senior classes from the senior syndicate had a 45 minute touch rugby lesson. As we waited until the clock  hit 11:45 we made our way outside on the field right in front of all the junior classes.

Finally it was our turn. Trevor was our coach and he was really qualified. He seemed to look like he was in his early 50’s but despite his age he could still run around, have fun and keep fit.

The whole 45 minutes was full of enjoyment and fun. We played activities. Answered questions. Learnt how to play properly and had relay races. My favourite activity was when we all lined up in a circle and we’d to pass the ball clockwise around as fast as we could. If we dropped the ball or threw it improperly we’re declared disqualified .

We had two rounds and luckily for me I made it into the top five. I really enjoyed the entire lesson and appreciated that Trevor taught us. I’m really looking forward to the next time we have another lesson this Thursday. Thanks again Trevor!

Participation In The First Ever Ruapotaka School Poetry Recital!

As the two prefects from our class room Ofa and Sini were calling up the three finalist from each room counting upwards, Room 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. While I and another finalist Florida was waiting I was getting really nervous. I wasn't sure about Florida because from my perspective she showed no sign of emotion. I really wanted to bail out and just forget my whole entire and make that an excuse for me to not present my poem. After a matter of time in my mind I was thinking about it so I decided to just do it.

As it was my turn to say my speech based on the Past, Present and Future by June Kellum- 2005, I could feel the perspiration occurring onto by body. I had to remember all the tips that Mrs Golder had told me. In the end I'd said my whole poem without stopping which I am very proud of.

Since this was the first ever poem recital at our school there wasn't able to be a first, second, and third so everyone received a certificate for participating.

Well Done Everyone!

End of Year Test: Reading

Could it be? Was it the second option or the first? I’d knew that I’ve had no choice but to choose one or else I’ll lose a full mark. Even if it was the wrong answer I’d still have to try. Afterall In the test it says try to answer even if you’ll have to guess.

As we’d already begun our test I could feel  perspiration process occurring across my entire body. I was really nervous. Reading wasn’t my best subject so I knew there was a chance of me failing my age standards.

What only felt like 5 minutes was actually 20 minutes and that’s when negative thoughts were initiating in my mind. As I was wasting valuable time  I did my best to clear my mind so that I could carry on. Once I cleared my mind I carried on with the test.

In the end I had faith within myself and hoped that I’d passed. A few days later when Mrs. Golder had marked all of the test and we’d had our results I’d received my test results. As I looked at the total and the stanine I noticed that I passed.

I was filled with mixed emotions. From relief, to happiness, excitement but there was just a tiny bit of disappointment. I guess I was disappointed because of my mark and that compared to last and this year I didn’t make a big improvement as i thought of making.

All I knew was that I tried my best and that’s all that matters.

Otahuhu Park

Staying at the park, although it was still dark. It was actually quite fun even without the bright sun!

During the two weeks holiday off from school my three year old  niece, Vaiola, my older cousin, Sophia, my mum, three sisters Rose, Lupe and Malia, Taveti and I went to the park. We all traveled all by car.

On the way there it was a bit funny because Vaiola was always on her own buzz. She kept singing and screaming the whole way there. What made it even more worse was that I was sitting right beside her. The things she was screaming were “The wolf finds the sheep and then he eats all of them”.

Vaiola is very tall for her age. She has super curly black hair. Her left leg has a small light brown birthmark, the same as her father. She loves nursery rhymes and fairy tales and most of the time she is really stubborn and will almost always disagree with anything unless they were compliments about herself.

At some point I realized that I’d knew the nursery rhyme she was singing. It was at the tip of my tongue then all of a sudden it hit me. The rhyme she was singing was the ‘The Wolf and the Seven Little Sheep’.

I was relieved that I finally solved the mystery of the rhyme she was singing but sadly O wouldn't be relieved from her singing. It was useless trying to prevent her. In fact it would just make her sing even louder.

With all the bellowing and the singing during the car ride to the park I started to have a sore head ache. I was also really tired but unfortunately I couldn't possibly sleep with all the noise and rackets that one little three year old child was making.

Finally we made it to the park and I was so glad that I wouldn’t have to hear all the bellowing anytime sooner. It was a bit crowded at first until it was getting darker in hours that just felt like minutes. At the park there was a humongous spider web climbing course where anyone and everyone could climb so I climbed it. It was at least 5 metres off the ground. Once I made it to the top I looked at the view that it provided me with which was amazing.

I could see a glimpse of the beautiful orange sun from the distance as it was settling down in the Western side of the country. As well as the sun I could see the big enormous pine tree that preferably looked as big as 6 adult elephants stacked up . In the corner of my eye I could just see the corner of my cousin’s house two blocks away from the park. There were also men on the field training for a rugby touch game.

We played, and played and played and played until our feet started to ache then we all just laid down on the dark green grass that felt either damp or just cold. A few minutes later we were off back home.

It was very fun and at the end of the day I was overjoyed and excited for the next time we’ll go back there again.

Nelson Mandela Biography

Nelson Mandela has become well known and respected all over the world as a symbol of the struggle against apartheid and all forms of racism. To aboriginal Africans he is their icon and hero of African liberation.

Not only is Nelson Mandela known well for the struggle against apartheid but also for preventing less racist violent policewomen and men against citizens and also because he played a major role for the battle of South Africa's Independence.

In the late 19th century Nelson Mandela became the first black President of South Africa. He became actively involved in the ANC also known as the African National Congress in his middle aged 20s in 1942. He served South Africa for 5 years from 1994 to 1999.

Nelson Mandela was born on July the 18th 1918  and died 2 years ago on December the 5th 2013 at the age of 95 years old. Nelson Mandela died after suffering from a prolonged respiratory infection. Nelson Mandela died at his home in Johannesburg. Nelson Mandela was born in Mvezo, Tranksei South Africa.

Nelson Mandela was born Rolihlala Mandela . Rolihlala in the Xhaos language literally means "pulling a branch of a tree", but more commonly translates as a trouble maker.

Although Nelson Mandela has done many great things in life he has once been sent to jail. Did he do anything wrong? No he didn't but only stand up to the apartheid. Why did he go to jail though if it's just protesting you guess? Its because back in those days when the apartheid were in control that was apart of their law. Whomever protested towards the apartheid had to pay a price, which was Nelson Mandela's price, sentenced to prison for 27 years.

Once Nelson Mandela became in charge of everything being President of South Africa he managed to change everything. He gave everyone equal rights so therefore everyone could speak their minds to everyone and anyone.

In 2009 Nelson Mandela's birthday was declared "Mandela Day" to promote global peace and to celebrate the South African Leader's Legacy. Nelson Mandela has changed people, countries, laws and the world. He's also made many inspirational quotes, sayings and many more things.

"When a man has done what he considers to be his duty to his people and his country, he can rest in peace. I believe I have made that effort and that is, therefore, why I will sleep for the eternity" - Nelson Mandala  "It always seems impossible until it is done." - Nelson Mandela"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." - Nelson Mandela"We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference." -Nelson Mandela
