Dear Diary

It’s been a bad day as usual. Firstly, I still want my room back even though  I haven’t said anything to mum yet. Secondly, I still can’t believe that Becca and Brian have now even moved in! I told Becca to do my homework but she keeps saying “No!.”

Dad still gets very angry about mum and Brian being together. Unfortunately dad is now as violent as bombs dropping down in a war. I wish dad will get a job soon, so that mum and him won’t fight and argue.

I went to school and sneaked out to go to the carpark to meet up with Jack. I sneakily  took a few bottles of alcohol from the garage. Luckily no one has caught us yet.

Hopefully things will get better sooner or later.

The Letter

The War

25th March 1995

Dear Mum and Dad

Soldiers on board - some too old and some too young - getting ready for whatever they have to do to survive and sacrifice their lives to protect their country and families.

Day 1.Firstly, we  arrived at Gallipoli, Turkey at midnight. Some were already dead once we arrived. Next we had to dig our trenches at exactly 6x5 feet deep.

We had breakfast on the beach at first then we went back to our trenches. Not long until it was midday and bombs started dropping down and some bullet shots came out of nowhere. Some of our troops were killed during the bombings that were dropping down. Some were wounded and were SCREAMING “HELP” as loud as a rooster in the morning.

Day 2. All of the troops were lined up trying to hide away from the enemies. We heard this weird noise then some Turkish soldiers started running towards us. We had our guns shooting them while they were running towards us. Luckily none of us had died.

Some were dead as a moa but at the end of the day even though some had died I was still happy that I had survived. It was challenging fighting them.

Who Am I?

My name is Elizabeth and I am a year eight student. I attend Ruapotaka Primary Intermediate School. I live in Auckland, Glen Innes. I was born in New Zealand. I have black hair, dark brown eyes and I am short in height. I am Tongan, Samoan and Cook Island. I enjoy playing sports, games and doing art.

In my family there are five boys, five girls, my mum and my dad. I am the seventh child in my family. I have six older siblings and three younger siblings.

Visiting my Brother

Going to the RNZN Base was cool but seeing my brother was better. We woke up at 6:00 am. We got ready to go. Before we could go to the RNZN Base we had to get my dad from Mangere then make our way to the RNZN base.

We arrived at 9:15 am which was just in time to get my brother. By the time we walked in everyone was holding cameras, phones and other electronic devices. We were directed to the edge of the footpath to wait for them.

Soon he arrived. My brother was in the third row behind the people playing the bagpipes, marching. Later after they had marched they were allowed to go home with their families for one day.

He came home in his uniform with his hat. When we got home everyone said "hi" and hugged him. Most of his friends came to say "hi." He left to go back to the RNZN base at 5:30 pm. We said our "goodbyes" but he’ll rather ring or visit us in the weekend.
